We encourage mothers to use the best self-care habits that fit their lives

Khalilah Williams, MA, MFT

Khalilah Williams is a Marriage and Family Therapist who works with her clients on exploring and identifying their areas of strength and resilience.  She has supported individuals, couples, and families as they identify and address problematic patterns in their lives and in their relationships.  Khalilah has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Montclair State University, a Master of Arts in Behavioral Sciences from Kean University and a Professional Diploma in Marriage and Family Therapy from Kean University.  She has worked in the mental health field for 10 years empowering, educating, and advocating for the needs of her clients.  Through her own experience and working as an independent contractor serving clients from the Division of Child Protection and Permanency; Khalilah begun the movement “Mommy Take off Your Cape” which promotes self-care for mothers.  The movement is focused on providing support and psycho-education to empower women to care for themselves without guilt or shame.  Through the increase of self-esteem mothers can develop more effective parenting skills and are able to balance their many roles efficiently.  Khalilah is currently co-authoring an anthology entitled “Black Therapist Rock – A Glimpse through the Eyes of Experts” where she addresses maternal mental health and the internal dialog women experience after giving birth. The book is scheduled to be released in the Summer of 2018. Khalilah is dedicated to combating the stigma attached to mental health and mothers feeling the pressure of making everyone in their lives besides themselves a priority.  She further believes mothers can only be their best in the many roles they have if they take care of themselves.  Tune in to Beacon of Light Radio every Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. where you will hear this transactional speaker advocate for maternal self-care to protect the mother's well-being.
